Objective:

Our ecotourism project is focused on providing sustainable alternative sources of income to women and  families facing extreme rural poverty and are dependant on Jhum/rotation cultivation and forest products. The existing sources of  livelihood have resulted in massive deforestation and scarcity of water in the region. The project is developed to provide a  long term solution to end the cycle of rural poverty and environment degradation.

Activities:

Empower Tribes work together with our partner villages to build ecotourism facilities while planting trees and running awareness campaigns. We promote research for sustainable water sources in partnership with universities.  Empowerment and building  readiness needed for an independent management right after the completion of the project is ingrained in all our projects.

Empower Farmers

Objectives and Activities:

Owing to lack of infrastructure, technology and support most farmers in rural Manipur are in danger of extreme poverty. Further, farmers are exploited and forced to sell their products at very low prices  since there are no available means to preserve and store agricultural goods.

The project’s  goal is to empower farmers to demand fair prices through the use of technology which can work with little or no infrastructure such as solar powered devices to process and convert agricultural products. This also involves construction of a  climate controlled warehouse.

Empower Tribes encourages  farmers to use sustainable permaculture as well as zero farming techniques.

Workshops and trainings are provided to spread awareness regarding the environmental impact of Jhum cultivation and the use of chemicals most especially in farming practices. We involve and train the communities in order to build their own readiness for an independent management right after the completion of the project. We also provide marketing support and linkage to external markets.
